You look like you need a coffee
Berlin, Germany
I love coffee and I still drink it,
but over time and with experience, my habits have changed.
Last year, when I was staying with my nieces, I asked them: how would you describe me in three words?
They answered: funny, sporty… and you love coffee ☕
And it was true. I used to drink a lot of it — often two cups first thing in the morning.
It was hard not to notice.
On my way home through Berlin, I saw a sign:
“You look like you need a coffee.”
It made me smile. But I didn’t buy one — I just kept walking to the hotel.
Movement and exercise really do give you energy.
But what do you do when you don’t even have enough energy to start?
That’s when it’s important to pause.
Give yourself time and honestly look for the reasons behind the lack of energy.
Caffeine isn’t the answer — it doesn’t solve the problem, it only masks it for a while.
Now I have a few small rules:
I don’t drink coffee in the second half of the day.
I don’t drink it during jet lag.
And I no longer start my morning with coffee.
Because if you consistently have no energy in the morning — that’s a signal. And it’s worth listening to.
Coffee is still part of my life.
But no longer as a source of energy.
Now it’s a small ritual. Inspiration.
Time for myself, for thoughts and stories.
Because real energy isn’t in the cup.
It’s in paying attention to yourself. In taking care of yourself.
Sometimes it’s simple — getting enough sleep. Starting your day with a glass of water. Going for a short walk. Noticing your thoughts. Bringing order to your space. Doing something kind for yourself.
And allowing yourself to try something new.
If this made you smile,
if it brought a little warmth inside —
you can treat me to a coffee for a new story ☕
Thank you for reading and for treating me to a coffee
